Saturday the 7th of October 2023, in the early hours, Israelis living in the region close to the Gaza strip woke up to their worst nightmare. Hamas fighters attacked them, undiscriminating killing children, women, men, non-military personnel and military personnel. - up until now, the death toll keeps on climbing.

The Israel government did not take long to retaliate. As we speak, the Gaza strip is under heavy shelling from the Israeli army and a ground operation is to be followed.

Is this ever going to end?

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been going on for many years, and it just does not seem that peace will be achieved soon. The situation there is like a vicious circle. Both parties commit atrocities to each other, Israel end up winning the war temporary, and few years later a Palestinian group comes up and inflict new atrocities, and it goes on and on.

My understanding of the origins of the war:

It appears that the disputed land was predominantly occupied by Jews years before World War 1. Many Jews then moved to greener pastures, in Europe, to the United State and all over the world; leaving their land to the ever growing Palestinian population. We all know how the Jews were then persecuted in Europe and in the rest of the world frankly. After having experienced hatred, Jews felt the need to return to their original land, after World War 2. When they returned, most of their former land was now Palestinian dominated.

The situation in the middle east, is a very complex one. The Palestinians also have legit reasons to feel that the land belong to them.

How can the situation be resolved?

The best and only solution to this difficult situation is for both Palestinians and Israelis to live together, sharing the land. The current situation is purely Apartheid against the Palestinian population. As long as Palestine is not recognized as its own independent state, Hamas will be crushed tomorrow, but a new generation of Palestinians will probably seek to avenge their death, because what Israel is experiencing now and then, with attacks, Palestinians experience them more frequently with Israel incursions to the Gaza strip and the West Bank.

My prayer is for both Israelis and Palestinians to somehow learn to live together side by side.
